Comparison of Three 33 y/o Professional Tennis Players’
Effectiveness
In this project, I looked to assess how effective certain professional
tennis players of the same age were. To measure how effective the
players were at winning, I collected all of the matches that they had
won on the ATP Tour in Main draws of professional events. Then, I
determined how many games they had won in each of their victories. For a
player to be more effective by this metric, they would have to win the
match in as few games won as possible (ideally 12, the worst being 20).
I was also interested in their effectiveness over time and if there were
any clear trajectories. I chose to plot their games won in matches
against the calendar date they had been played. From this, I was able to
find that these players, although having almost identical career lengths
and similar levels of success, had varying trajectories in
effectiveness. Some players were most effective in the beginning and
middle of their career, but others were most effective towards the end
of their career.
